Portfolio Project Blog Post #3

 Characters

Now having identified that my project will be in the crime and mystery genre, I would have to choose the characters that would be in my project. So I did some research on the typical characters in a crime and mystery film. I discovered that typically their is a protagonist, antagonist, confidant, as well as a love interest. I already earlier decided I wanted the film to have an element of mystery to it,  so I decided I wouldn't directly include the antagonist in the film, but rather leave clues to who he is. I also decided I didn't want to include a love interest in the short amount of time I had, but rather wanted to focus on the crime. Now regarding the protagonist, I already had an idea of what I wanted him to be but did some research regarding the typical protagonist in a crime and mystery film. I learned that the protagonist is often either a detective working on a case or rather someone who has a direct connection to the case. I decided to choose the former having my protagonist be a detective. I feel choosing a detective would play better into the mystery genre rather than someone who has a direct relation to the crime. Now knowing the protagonist, I felt it would be best to make the confidant someone in the same profession giving the audience context to their relationship in the short amount of time I have. I haven't decided the exact details of their relationship yet and whether or not the confidant will be a detective as well or more of an apprentice working under him. Overall, I feel good about my characters development so far but want to see how I further develop them as I do more research and dive deeper into the project.
