Starting off our music marketing project, we were tasked with picking and researching about two record labels and 2 of it's artists. By diving up the work as well as helping each other out when we finished, we finished this rather quickly. I was tasked with researching history about Atlantic Records as well as one of it's artists Lil Uzi Vert. Researching history about Atlantic Records was quite easy as it is public information, but researching things such as marketing strategies, target audience and distribution methods about Lil Uzi Vert was quite difficult due to it not always being public information. In the end I was able to find most of what I was looking for through extensive research and many websites and forums.
Next after the music research chart, we were tasked with making a storyboard for our music video we are going to create. We were given a choice of songs in the genre provided to us in which we received hip hop/funk. We ended up choosing Colors by Black Pumas and now had to depict the lyrics and find out what the song was really about to make the most effective music video possible. I found out while researching and listening to the song that it was about discrimination and how he views people of all colors to be the same. After discovering this we decided it would be best to make a storytelling music video where we use different camera angles and shots to create a story.
Now we are still not quite finished with the story board but have an idea for what we want it to be. We have decided to combine visuals from the song and shots portraying the message of the song into one. I was made the main character of the music video and I will be portrayed as someone who connects everyone of different races and ethnicities giving in to the message of the song.
After making the storyboard we will have to both create a music video based on the storyboard and create a presentation marketing our brand and "our" song Colors. We have decided we will do this after school at the public library for the music video, and in class on Friday for the presentation.
